Re-Engineering- Decentralized Architecture for Truck Harness Protection
Customer: Leading Truck & Van Body manufacturer in North America
SCOPE
- Improve protection of Wire Harnesses against damage from high current fault conditions.
- Reduce the complexity of wire harness routing with in the truck.
- Revisit the fuse capacities and locations of electrical centers.
- Re-engineer the schematics and harness drawings for prototyping & production.
APPROACH
- Evaluated thoroughly based on the warranty issues and findings.
- Decentralized - tree-like structure with main power “trunks” dividing into smaller “branches,” with overcurrent protection at each node.
- Created harnesses as per customer company standards.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Optimized design - achieved space savings, sizing and reduced the complexity of electrical routing & distribution.
- Improved system reliability and design flexibility.
- Reduced warranty claims/cost by 90%.
